The aim of the urban cup holder is to encourage people to reinterpret street settings and claim them as their territory, instead of just using them as a means of passage from A to B. The cup holder is easily clamped with one hand to posts in the street, then used as a coat/bag/umbrella hanger and a drink holder. In turn, giving the user a feeling of control and creating a more personal space, a temporary territory.
Urban Cup Holder by UP TO YOU. I tried to find it in their online shop, unsuccesfully.
I love the idea of interacting and incorporating the city into ones life. As a NYer always on the go, running to catch the light, a taxi, a store I feel like things are a blur, I would love to experience city life a bit more. The hlder is brilliant if only to stop and tie your shoe.

What an excellent idea. Even if just to extend a cafe's 'seating area' by installing some on the lamp posts outside....I might mention these to my favourite local "hole in the wall" cafe.

Dear Tina,
Thank you for including the Urban Cup Holder on your blog. It just came in and is so new that it went out in our newsletter but had not been uploaded in our shop. The cup holder is now in our online shop and retails for $15 Cdn.
Best,

Surely, in the light of recent anti-smoking legislation, someone should start making the urban ash-tray? Christ, I'm good.

Am I the only one who thinks this cup holder is silly? I can't remember I time when I was standing on the street and thought that I needed a cup holder. I just hold my cup. Sure it would be nice to have a cup holder available in case you need to tie your shoe, but who needs to carry around one more item in their bag just in case their shoe comes untied while holding a cup of joe? Then you'd have to juggle your cup, bag, and umbrella while you fish your cup holder out of your bag in order to set your cup down. You might need a cup holder while you look for your cup holder. If I wanted to claim the street as my territory, I do not need a cup holder of all things.
