All you letterpress fanatics, beware: Steel Toe Studios, a design and metalsmithing company in Seattle, recently came out with a hand-forged belt buckle made from metal type.
Jonnie asked the following question on twitter: Does anyone know if there's a single font that would allow all international characters? (Chinese, Hebrew, Korean, Cyrillic) And now I am curious to know, is there? Anyone?
Stuart emailed me about one of his recent projects, Flipping Typical, a single-serving-site that allows you to compare text in the typefaces you have installed.
Explore with James Yang the world of seven illustrators who live the global life. (no embedd code, again, ugh!)
(thank you Jon)

The entire FontFont catalogue can be viewed online over at issuu. You can flip through the 2009 catalogue, zoom in for higher resolution, and even download it (though you’ll need to sign up). Fantastic!

My office mate Jason Kernevich, of the Heads of State, just pointed me to one of his most recent projects: DROP CAPS. They installed the above alphabet into the ceiling of the room in which they studied typography, at Tyler School of Art. Absolutely fantastic. Wish I could see it in person. Thank you Jason!

Just in time for the Christmastime consumer-fest, Face37 has released Type Trumps. Type Trumps, a play on Top Trumps, is a game in which different typefaces are attributed numerical values. These figures are then used to enable the cards to be won or lost using some of the tried and true Top Trumps rules. This novelty is available at Magma Books.

Want to impress a font lover this holiday season? Get him/her a copy of ABC3D and prepare to be amazed. It's a pop-up book and a work of art. Hat tip off to Marion Bataille.

Ahhhh... technology. The geniuses at Plexifilm have spent the past two years developing a Sharpie pen that actually writes in Helvetica! This pen is so experimental that it's priceless... literally. You can't buy one, but you can get one free with any Helvetica-related purchase (DVD, T-shirt, etc.). Get your free pen while they last. It's a great gift for that person in your life with sloppy handwriting...* Warning: if you are John Downer or Marian Bantjes then the pen will actually write in Helvetica. Otherwise, your results may vary. Do not swallow. Keep away from open flame and co-workers. May cause drowsiness.
made me laugh!

My cutting board dreams have come true: House Industries Ampersand Cutting Board.

Book as a block, block as a type = booksetting
Our little Ella approves!

Wu Xubin uses his nose in an unconventional way - to write Chinese calligraphy. Tell me that's a hoax, please.

Behance launched a series of sites that feature some of the most "appreciated" (yet hard to find) projects in the Behance Network: Typography and Industrial Design. The idea is to "serve" a few of the latest/greatest projects daily...and to help generate more leads for the artists.

A big giant alphabet. Maybe not exactly that font, but similar concept. Or a 6ft ampersand. *Swoon*. I am all for big type. (Part of House Industries' Letters & Ligatures show at the Subliminal Gallery in LA. The show is up until December 5th.)

Text in Dutch: 'een thuis -een thuis weet ik nog, dat is onder je grond en ruimte boven je en daar dan zijn en weten waarom.'
Text in English: ' a home - a home I still remember, it's ground beneath you and space above and being there and knowing why.'
